The Bundesliga season 2024-2025 started
Hamburger Polo Club takes the lead after day 1 in the Bundesliga
The first quarter of the game is characterized by tactical discipline, with both teams relying on a solid defense and leaving little space. Chances are scarce, as the game takes place mainly in midfield, where the teams neutralize each other. But in the 12th minute, the home team takes advantage of their only real opportunity: after a beautifully played attack, Christopher Rühr breaks through and puts his team in the lead with a precise shot into the far corner. It is 1-0, and the guests will now be forced to play more offensively.
In the second quarter, the game picks up speed. Both teams play more offensively and look to move forward more often. Krefeld comes out of the break with renewed momentum and equalizes in the 17th minute. A quick attack down the right side leads to a cross that is coolly converted. The score is now 1:1 and the game is now more open, with more space for both teams, which finally promises more goal-scoring opportunities for the spectators.
The home team, Rot-Weiss, continues to push for the lead with full determination - and in the 36th minute it finally happens! After a strong phase of pressure, Rot-Weiss takes advantage of a disarray in Krefeld's defense. A precise pass into the circle is perfectly received by Christopher Rühr and converted from close range. 2:1 for the hosts! The fans cheer and Rot-Weiss now clearly has the momentum on their side. Krefeld is under pressure and has to react while the home team continues to push for the next goal.
The game remains intense and exciting in the last quarter. Krefeld tries everything to force an equalizer, but Rot-Weiss' defense holds firm. In the 48th minute, Christopher Rühr puts the finishing touch to a strong performance: after a quick counterattack, he finishes coolly and scores again to make it 3-1. This puts the game to bed and makes the preliminary decision. Krefeld continues to fight, but cannot create any real chances. In the end, Rot-Weiss deserved a 3-1 victory in a tactically focused but exciting match.

At Club an der Alster Jeremy Hayward (AUS) also clocked his first hattrick in the game vs Harvestehuder. The Harvestehuder team will be playing their first season without goalgetter Michael Körper who retired.
Polo convincingly beats Münchner 4-1. Lots of goals from southern hemisphere players also in this game with two from Kiwi Nic Woods and one from Aussie Tim Brand. Guess this might become a teme in the German league this season 😉
In Berlin the game ended in a 1-1 draw and needed shootouts to determine a winner. The home team were slightly better at this compared to the visitors from Hamburg.
Finally the last game on opening day also saw a draw after 60 minutes of play. But this time it were the visitors from Mannheimer who took the win over home team Grossflottbeker.
Remember in the German Bundesliga teams who win get 3 points. You lose you get zero points. And in case of a draw both teams get 1 point, but the winner of the shootout gets an additional point…
So after the final game on opening day the table loks like this:
With Uhlenhorst and TSV Mannheim playing their opening game on Sunday.
