Raoul Ehren leaves Belgium to coach the Netherlands
The Belgian federation confirmed Ehren asked to be released from his contract
Raou;l Eheren was the head coach of the legendary Dutch women’s club team of Den Bosch . A team with an incredible winners mentality for many generations already. But after winning it all with Den Bosch he needed an international challenge and found it with the neighbours in Belgium.
His appointment at the head of the Belgian Red Panthers came at the right moment. A typical example of the right man at the right place. He took a team with talented young players, and some experienced ones as well, to new heights. Instilling the belief in them they too could play for the medals.
At the Paris Games they just fell short of the podium after a loss on shoot outs in the semi finals vs China. But it was clear Ehren was in the crosshairs of several national teams because of his work with the Belgians. The Belgian federation came to an agreement with Ehren before Paris to continu after Paris, knowing others would be chasing him as well.
But when you home country comes calling… and they are on top of the world, it’s hard to resist. So we can expect a press release of the Dutch one of these days announcing Raoul Eheren as the new head coach of the reigning Olympic and World champions, the Netherlands.
Raoul Ehren will be the second Dutch coach that got his international start in Belgium to then take on the national team of the Netherlands. Following in the footsteps of Jeroen Delmee who started in Belgium and via France became head coach of the Dutch men earlier.
