The Belgian men take 14 gold medal winners to Paris 2024
When the Red Lions announced the selection for the final leg of the Pro League to be played in the Netherlands it was communicated this would also be the Olympic selection for Paris 2024. Striker Tom Boon (LĆ©opold) made the selection after being dropped for the last EuroHockey Championships. Three young talents earned their spot with Arno Van Dessel (Herakles) in midfield and Nelson Onana (BraxgataāLĆ©opold), as well as Thibeau Stockbroeckx (Oranje-Rood) in attack.
With Denayer and Dohmen on midfield selected for their 5th (!) Olympic Games and 14 players (from the 16+3 selection) who won Olympic gold in Tokyo, this might be the most experienced selection to start the Paris 2024 Games.
Stockbroeckx told La Libre:
From my point of view, I don't see it as a surprise. I have lived with this group for three years. I know everyone's game. With Oranje-Rood, I have matured a lot in five years,ā continues the former Antwerp player. āDuring the Pro League, I had some good matches. I feel comfortable with this group. A selection remains a stressful moment.ā
